The Saskatoon Internet Exchange (YXEIX) is a non-profit, public Internet Exchange (IX), one of many Canadian IXs, that offer network interconnection services for the betterment of Canadians. YXEIX would like to help with the COVID-19 response by offering free membership (1 year) and hookups to public sector organizations. Many networks are approaching their capacity limits with the sharp increase in video and work from home network traffic. All this is happening at a time when communicating and coordinating is critically important. YXEIX provides a not-for-profit infrastructure that can help offload some of that traffic and provide an alternate path between crown, government, municipal, commercial enterprise, local internet service provider and content networks. As an augmentation to existing services, YXEIX can improve network reliability and performance in the province. YXEIX believes that now is the time for public, private and non-profit entities to work together to get through these tough times.
An IX (Internet Exchange) allows networks to interconnect on an open-access ethernet fabric -- providing low-latency, high-bandwidth, cost-effectively, in a locale.
Networks can exchange traffic faster and better. ISPs, transit providers, DNS services, and content networks will congregate -- it is sensible to interconnect locally.
Traffic exchange is facilitated by BGP (Border Gateway Protocol). Networks must have an AS (Autonomous System) number to announce their routes to each other.
Participation in YXEIX is $1200/yr. Connecting into the locations is subject to agreements with the facilities. The sum of benefits builds as more peers join.
Please read the FAQ. If this is suitable, extend your network into a YXEIX location and we will connect you to the IX. Please direct questions to email@example.com. Inquiries will be held confidential.
